Lifetime of Service Award

Carol Moehrle, District Director

Washington, DC, July 24, 2019 —The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) recognized the distinguished public health career of Carol Moehrle, Director of Public Health - Idaho North Central District, awarding her the Maurice “Mo” Mullet Lifetime of Service Award before a gathering of her peers at NACCHO’s 2019 Annual Conference in Orlando. NACCHO is the voice of the nation’s nearly 3,000 local health departments, and its annual conference hosts the largest gathering of local health officials in the United States.

NACCHO’s Maurice "Mo" Mullet Lifetime of Service Award honors local health officials for noteworthy service that reflects Mullet’s commitment, vigor, and leadership. Mo Mullet was a NACCHO board member for three years, vice president for four years, and president from 1992 to 1994. During his career, Mullet achieved statewide and national recognition as a leader among local health officials and in the field of public health. Those nominated for the award must demonstrate leadership among local health departments, characterized by energetic volunteer service to NACCHO and significant contributions to the field of local public health practice.

“There is no higher honor than to be recognized by your peers, and to stand amongst other recipients of this esteemed award. It takes a team of Public Health Leaders to advance Public Health, and I’ve been surrounded by an amazing team of colleagues and friends in Public Health. I am honored and humbled by this award,” said Ms. Moehrle.

For the past 27 years, Ms. Moehrle has served as the district director for a five-county public health district in North Central Idaho that serves a population of approximately 110,000. Ms. Moehrle has been active in NACCHO since 1992, and served as NACCHO president in 2010-2011.

“Carol exemplifies every element of this prestigious public health award. Her energetic volunteerism with NACCHO is long-standing; her thought leadership in the field is evident in the many roles and positions she serves on national Boards and expert advisory groups, and her passion and commitment to local governmental public health is unmatched,” said NACCHO Chief Executive Officer Lori Tremmel Freeman. “I cannot think of a local health official more deserving of this award. We are so happy to recognize Carol in this small way for her significant and impactful contributions to the field of public health.”

Ms. Moehrle’s peers nominated her for this honor saying, “This is a group effort from a number of Carol's public health colleagues from across the country who are insisting that this is Carol’s time to be recognized, as she shies away from recognition herself. We collectively know what Carol brings to the table: excellence in everything she does. Carol is very humble and will be embarrassed by this recognition, and while she would not put herself in the spotlight, we are nominating Carol, because no one exemplifies Mo's example of selfless service more than Carol does. Individually and collectively, we have worked with Carol on public health issues that span the spectrum of our profession. To an individual we respect, admire and know, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with and more importantly, know her. She has been a role model for all of us, teaching us how to lead and more importantly, when to be a leader. We are proud to be colleagues and friends of Carol Moehrle’s and passionately support her nomination for this award.”
